According to Effiong, the federal government does not have the power to choose or install an emir.
Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II was re-elected Emir of Kano, according to LEAKNEWS.
This comes after a measure that was approved by Thursday’s State House of Assembly.
On Saturday, the legal expert posted on his X account the urgent need for President Bola Tinubu to put an end to the chaos in Kano.
His remarks follow the announcement by a coalition of security forces headed by Muhammad Usaini Gumel, commissioner of police in Kano State, that they would comply with the court’s ruling prohibiting the state government from restoring Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Along with other senior military and DSS officials, Gumel issued a warning that the current situation in the Emirate Council would not be used to undermine state unity and peace.
According to several onlookers, the federal government is supposedly getting involved in a state-level issue.
Former Kano state leader and governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has previously demanded the arrest of the ousted Emir Aminu Ado Bayero without delay.
This came as tensions rose amid allegations of Bayero’s alleged forced homecoming.
The State should not be torched due to party politics, according to Effiong, a human rights lawyer.
The federal government does not have the power to decide on emirship disputes or to appoint or throne individuals as emirs, he stated.
The Governor and the King Makers are jointly responsible for this.
The current state of chaos in Kano state requires immediate action from President Tinubu.
