Posted by The Nigerian government has proposed a new minimum salary of N60,000, but the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has pledged to resist any increase to that amount.
This was revealed by TUC President Festus Osifo on Tuesday during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television.
Apparently, Osifo informed them, “It’s not that we’d get to the table and you start adding N1, N2, N3,000 as you were doing. We got some good guarantees here and there that they would do something good.”
In a bid to improve workers’ wages, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trades Union Congress (TUC) announced an indefinite strike on Monday.
The Nigerian government offered N60,000, while the organized labor group requested N494,000.
Meeting with labor leaders resulted in the cancellation of the strike, and President Bola Tinubu gave Finance Minister Wale Edun 48 hours to calculate the cost of raising the minimum wage.
