Posted by Justice Osai Ahiakwo, a lawyer and public commentator, has urged the authorities to apprehend Mr. Tony Okocha, the interim chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, and prosecute him for a treasonable conduct.
As reported by the LEAKNEWS, Okocha had urged the 27 APC legislators serving in the state Assembly to initiate the impeachment proceedings against Governor Sim Fubara.
But the attorney characterized it as a high-level treason crime.
The attorney made the following comment while in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State: “It is vexatious to hear Tony Okocha criticize the Rivers State Governor as a dunderhead.
“Learning that the aforementioned Okocha has called on ‘lawbreakers’ to begin the impeachment process against the Executive Governor of Rivers State is even more frustrating.”
Public disobedience might be caused by Okocha’s comments, according to Ahiakwo.
His main point was that after they switched parties from the PDP to the APC, “those Okocha supposedly referred to as Assembly members” were no longer considered lawmakers. The Nigerian Constitution, not the governor, has denied their existence.
Aside from measures that revive their dormant political system, such as the extremely unpopular and unlawful extension of the term of office for local government area chairmen, no bills that are people-oriented or relevant have been pushed to benefit the general public.
It is important to note that the Chief Judge of Rivers State will never condone or support any type of wrongdoing carried out by those posing as members of the House of Assembly, given their reputation for evading Nigerian laws.
Anarchy, fostered by Tony Okocha’s words, will lead to the disintegration of law and order.
“According to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Section 109 (1)(g) states that there is no legislative branch in Rivers State.”
Ahiakwo warned Okocha and his party leaders not to use legal citations and interpretations to satisfy their personal agendas, stating that the Governor is responsible for protecting both the meaning and the execution of the constitution.
