The Plateau athletes triumphed in the male and female categories, according to LEAKNEWS, even though Jalingo city was covered in an early morning downpour.
Jolly Nyame Stadium was the finish line for the race that began at the flyover bridge on Roadblock in Jalingo city and went through Barde Way and Bye Pass.
As revealed by Joseph Joshua, the commissioner of sports, the 21-kilometer marathon is a component of training for the next World Olympics and other big sporting events.
He praised the state governor, Agbu Kefas, for his dedication to sports development in the state and mentioned that renovation plans are underway to improve local sports activities at the Jolly Nyame Stadium.
Further, he declared that the marathon will surely grow into an annual occurrence, attracting competitors from all across the nation.
The men’s race was won by Newforth Mathias of Plateau State in 1 hour, 5 minutes, and 41 seconds, while the women’s race was won by Charity Ogufure of the same state in 1 hour, 12 minutes, and 22 seconds.
The two champions thanked the Taraba State administration for hosting the tournament and acknowledged the athletes’ hard work and training as the key to their achievement.
