Posted by Over the minimum wage dispute, the federal government and organized labor inked an agreement on Monday night.
Senator George Akume, who served as secretary to the federal government, facilitated the lengthy discussion that resulted in the signing of the accord.
According to IBOMLEAKNEWS, the conference was called in light of the statewide strike that halted all operations across the nation.
Summary of the agreement:
DECISIONS MASSIVELY APPROVED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND THE ORGANIZED LABOR CONFERENCE THAT TOOK PLACE ON JUNE 3, 2024
i. The National Assembly Leadership stepped in on June 2, 2024, following the Tripartite Committee’s (TC) negotiations on the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and the subsequent departure of Labor from the process. On Monday, June 3, 2024, the Organized Labour went on a statewide strike to make its demands heard.
ii. On Monday, June 3rd, the Federal Government met with the labor unions in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in an effort to halt the strike action, as it was deemed necessary for the national interest.
iii. Following extensive discussion and participation from all sides, the following decisions were made:
iv. A national minimum wage more than N60,000 has the support of the President, who is also the Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria;
Based on the aforementioned, the Tripartite Committee will meet daily for the following week to establish a fair national minimum wage;
v. With due respect to the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria’s pledge in (ii) above, the labor organization promises to promptly call a meeting of its relevant bodies to discuss this pledge; and
vi. The industrial action would not harm any employees.
