In an effort to bring back the traditional national song, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” President Bola Tinubu reportedly signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law on Wednesday.
The new national anthem, “Arise, O Compatriots,” was something that Teni expressed her displeasure with.
The previous song brought back a lot of emotions for her from her childhood, she said.
Arise, o countrymen; I shall miss you; thank you for the countless happy memories you have provided me during my youth,” Teni said on her X account. my love, SM, till we meet again.
In 1978, “Arise, O compatriots” was chosen to be the national anthem of Nigeria.
Vocalists John A. Ilechukwu, Eme Etim Akpan, B. A. Ogunnaike, Sota Omoigui, and P. O. Aderibigbe each contributed to the song’s lyrics.
The Nigeria Police Band, conducted by B. E. Odiasse, played the national anthem.
‘Arise, O countrymen’ is now formally superseded by the previous anthem, ‘Nigeria, We Hail Thee,’ as Nigeria’s National Anthem, according to the National Anthem Bill 2024, which President Tinubu just signed into law.
