REBUTTAL ON THE PURPORTED APPOINTMENT/ ADOPTION OF DR. EMMANUEL UKPONG AS CHAIRMAN OF ETIM EKPO ELDERS’ FORUM AND POLITICAL LEADER

The News making the rounds on the Media on the purported appointment of Dr. Emmanuel Ukpong as the Chairman of Etim Ekpo Elders Forum and Political Leader of the area by some individuals has been described as false and anulity.

This is contained in a release signed by the International President Maintain Peace Movement, MPM, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, Member Representing Etim Ekpo and Ika in the State Assembly, Hon. Mfon Idung, Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Imo Moffat, Former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Barr. Nse Ekanem, Executive Chairman, Etim Ekpo LGA, Hon. Imeh Afia, amongst others.

The release stated categorically that the purported appointment of Dr. Ukpong by a group of persons was in total disregard to due process and precedence.

It described the alleged appointment of the political leader of Etim Ekpo by some people as throwing caution, decency and decorum to the winds.

The release explained that it is the practice that in the appointment of a political leader, Party Chieftains of that political party, that is, the Chapter Chairman and Chapter Officers, State Party Officers from that extraction, Zonal and National Party Officers from the area if any, Ward officers and notable political leaders and elders would participate in the appointment of the political leader.

It stated further that in the appointment of the Chairman Elders Forum, stakeholders from the Local Government Area must take part in the process, noting that in the case of the purported appointment of Dr. Emmanuel Ukpong, the Former National Legal Adviser, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, Member Representing Etim Ekpo and Ika, Hon. Mfon Idung, the serving Commissioner from Etim Ekpo, Dr.Imo Moffat, Former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Barr. Nse Ekanem, Chairman of Council and his Vice, Hon. Imeh Afia and Hon. Nyeti Eno Eyo, and the various Ward stakeholders did not partake in the exercise.

The release advised the public to discountenance such appointment, adding that at the appropriate time, Etim Ekpo PDP stakeholders will meet and choose a suitable political leader and Chairman of Elders Forum for Etim Ekpo.
