An Aide to Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state, Comrade Ekomobong Peter has urged Nigerian Universities to speed up the process of unbundling communication studies to have students to meet the expectation of the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) of having better qualified graduates produced from the constituting programmes by the year 2025.

Peter made the urge last weekend, while presenting academic aid to students of the International Institute of Journalism, Uyo study centre, as part of activities to mark his birth anniversary for the year 2021.

Addressing the students, Peter stressed that considering the current global changes in communication studies and the demands, graduates need to have in-depth knowledge of specialized areas in the field and build expertise to become more sought after in the labour market, rather than having graduates who have little knowledge of each area.

Peter who is a graduate of English Language from the University of Uyo hinted that his interest in journalism and the media prompted his choice of seeking further studies in journalism, hence, his obtained Postgraduate Diploma qualification in the field.

He noted that while thinking of how to have a memorable birthday celebration, he happened on the idea of assisting a few students of the institute with funds that can get them one or two study materials to advance their academic pursuit and quest for knowledge.

While urging the students to pay deep focus on their studies, the governor’s aide added that at every given and affordable opportunity, he will spare nothing in contributing to the development of journalism and education in the state.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, one of the students, Miss Iniodu Essien appreciated the donor for the show of love and support, adding that while some acts of men maybe personally planned, they turn out to have been directed by God. She further hinted that the support was very timely, as they were preparing for the semester examination slated to commence the following week.
