EARCOM Lends Support To Esom Ibam, USA For The Distribution Of Educational Materials To schools In Akwa Ibom [PHOTOS]

The Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission, EARCOM, Akwa Ibom State, has commended the great humanitarian gesture of the ESOP Iban, Dallas, USA for contributing to the development of quality education in the State.


Speaking on behalf of the Commission, the Executive Chairman, Dr Dorothy Thompson lauded the Esop Iban when she conducted the team around some select schools in the State where they distributed Educational materials to pupils in support of the free and compulsory education policy of the State Government.


In her address to the Esop Iban delegation, the EARCOM Chairman told the team that Governor Emmanuel’s priority in education is to ensure an enduring legacy and manpower development in the state. The EARCOM Boss thanked organization for their selfless services which culminated in supporting the effort of Governor Emmanuel in the education sector, meeting the needs of the less privileged and ensuring better future for the Akwa Ibom child.


Dr Dorothy who assured the members of the Esop Iban Akwa Ibom State, Dallas, USA of conducive environment to carry out their programmes in the State, disclosed that, EARCOM deemed it expedient to support the kind gesture of the group by donation of 80 leaves customized exercise books and other antisocial vices materials to each of the schools visited, which Dr Thompson said, is in tandem with the State of Emergency declared in the education sector earlier in the year by Governor Emmanuel led administration. Other areas in which EARCOM provided support was provision of transportation, security and media personnel throughout the three days of their tour of the Schools.


Dr Thompson charged the pupils and the benefitting schools to see the contribution of the education materials by the Esop Iban USA organization, and support by EARCOM as a motivation for hard work towards attainment of academic successes and becoming socially responsible citizens in the State.


She also urged the pupils to be law abiding, obedient to constituted authorities, avoid keeping bad company, shun cultism, examination malpractices and refrain from indulging in antisocial behaviour that can mar their future.


The EARCOM Chairman however frowned at the attitude of some parents, who force their wards to stay away from Schools because of community harvest of palm fruits, family chores and unnecessary domestic involvement describing such acts as being detrimental to the positive development of children and undermining the effort of government in the sector.


Speaking, on the mission of the group, Madam Ene Etuk, who led the delegation to Akwa Ibom and who is the Vice President of Esop Iban , Akwa Ibom Dallas, Texas, stated that, the organization is a Voluntary association of 25 women living in Texas who have decided to come together with the aim of assisting the less privileged including widows, orphans and students in Akwa Ibom State.


Ms Etuk who represented the Organization’s President, Mrs Eka Morgan, applauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for declaring a state of emergency in the educational sector, recruitment of teachers and provision of corresponding infrastructure to improve the system, adding that, the organization is embarking on the distribution of educational materials to pupils in the state to further encourage education in Akwa Ibom.


Earlier the delegation accompanied by the EARCOM Boss paid a courtesy call to the Honorable Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, to intimate her on their mission. The Education Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Helen Ante, commended the Organization for reaching out and restated the State Governments determination to reposition the education sector .


The educational materials distributed to Schools by the organisation include; School bag packs, exercise books, pens and rulers. She commended EARCOM for all the support given to them in the distribution of educational materials to primary school children in the state and listed other programmes of the organization to include, building of homes for the widows, caring for the orphans, assistance to pregnant women and the aged.


Other members of the delegation to Akwa Ibom State from ESOP Iban Akwa State, Dallas, Texas, USA include: Mrs Stella Udoka, the PRO; Mrs Ekaette Ukpong, Mrs Rose Edet, Mrs Arit Essien and Ms Glory Dominic.


On his part, Hon. Elder Joshua Affia, the Executive Chairman of Ikot Abasi Local Government Council, while responding during the Organization’s excercise in Qua Iboe Church Primary School, Okon Town, Ikot Abasi, applauded Governor Emmanuel for creating a peaceful and friendly environment for investors to operate freely and lauded the philanthropic gesture of the ESOP Iban U S A and EARCOM.Hon. Affia urged the pupils to see the educational materials given to them as a call to excellence in their performance in school.


Other Council Chairmen who received the delegation are Hon. Ettetim Onuk of Itu Local Government Area and his Uruan counterpart, Hon. Iniobong Ekpenyong both of who applauded the gesture of the women and EARCOM as a welcome development.


Other members in the EARCOM team include Hon Victor Udofia and Pastor Imeh David, who are Board members, as well as Mr. Aniefiok Stephen, the Director of Administration.


Some of the Schools that benefitted from the outreach are, Methodist Central School, Amayam, Ikot Ekpene, Methodist School, Nkim Itam, Itu Local Government Area, Government Primary School Ikot Inyang Esuk, Uruan LGA, Methodist Primary School, Odua Ebguhu, Mbo LGA, Apostolic Primary School, Nung Obong, Nsit Ubium LGA, Primary School, Ikot Okon, Nsit Ubium LGA and St Benedicts Primary School, Akon Itam in Itu LGA.


Others are, St Francis Primary School, Nsasak, Essien Udim LGA, Government School, Anan Ikono, Uyo Local Government Area and Qua Iboe Church Primary School, Okon Town, Ikot Abasi LGA.
